Mr. Rott's room January 13 - 17

Greg Madux

Happy New Year!  Yes we are back at it and working away!!
Tom Glavine

Last week was a very exciting week in Baseball, especially for Atlanta Braves Baseball!  Both Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first try!  That is exciting and Maddux had 97.2% of the vote (I would have given him 100% of the vote) and Glavine had 91.9% (Math is everywhere!) - that's 555 out of 571 ballots voted for Maddux.   I have seen both of these pitchers pitch and they are INCREDIBLE!  Also, I have a white jersey just like the one that Maddux is wearing in this picture (picture on the right).. and it is way cool!

Why do I share this with you? - besides it being such an exciting news story - I share this with you because when I read about Greg Maddux and what others say I think of my students ... because others have said things like how humble he was/is, how easy going, a hard worker, dedicated, helpful and so on.. what makes this a big deal is that I hope people will say this about each of you - my students  - and that others will think of you in a similar manner!

You get to decide how people view you.  You can work hard and be respectful or be lazy and do the least amount of work that you can.. but wouldn't you rather have people think good things about you vs. bad?  I am sure you would rather be thought of as Greg Maddux than perhaps some other players who were not elected into the hall of fame.

Back to math!  Math group A will be working on simplifying fractions and taking a test next week,  Math group B1 will also be working on simplifying fractions and taking their test either Friday or Tuesday, while Math group B2 is finishing up integers and have their test on this Friday!

The first semester is almost up.. I have told students that they will have until January 24th to turn in all work that they would like to redo or tests that they would like to retake.. don't rush get that work fixed NOW!

Remember, you are amazing and wonderful people with great things ahead of you!!

Updates on things

Getting closer to Gonzaga Men's Basketball!
Happy Thursday… well actually it’s our Friday… we have tomorrow off… ahhhhhhhhhhhh everyone was excited – teachers included!

We will be taking our Compare and ordering decimal test for 4th period on Monday and 6th period on Tuesday.  Please study… I mean really study!

So you will know: If your student or a student does score at last 70% or higher on a summative assessment, they must retake their test within two weeks.  Each student will have a retake packet that I send home that I would like you to sign which will include the name of the test and your student's percentage score. Please let me know if you have any questions about the retake plan.

Also, I have finally figured out how to add pdfs to my blog.. it was pretty simple actually… anyhow you will find a new tab with a link that will take you to a pdf of the homework.  The instructions for the homework will be up in the right hand corner and again if you have any questions please let me know.

Also part two:  I have the lessons that we are working on located under another tab.  In case you can’t find your lesson at home and you have access to the blog you can always find the lesson right there!

Also part three:  I have posted grades, I only have a few papers yet to correct and post…

Have a great day off.. and enjoy the sun ( hopefully it will be out)!
