For the Week of January 19 - 22

Greetings Super Heros!
This week we begin going over tips on taking the State Math test... and making sure we know how to use our class calculators... the State allows students to use calculators, and I want to make sure all you Super Heros have all the help you can get to do your very BEST!

Just to remind you.. That you had Monday off in honor or Martin Luther King Jr.... We will be talking more about him next month during Black History Month. But he was a man who had a vision for equality and peace amongst all people. He said, “But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.” He also wanted his children to be able to grow up in a land where all were equal..., “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Great thoughts and words to live by.. A dream for a better life for all people and each of us can do something to help these words live today!

Again I remember that the work is more difficult this term! You have to put the time in, not just for your grades sake but also so that you will learn the new concepts that we are working on.

Remember! Each week you will have a blog question, please reread the How to Post Answers to the BLOG Questions below, so that you won’t lose points for not answering your classes’ blog question. See the blog posting help on the side bar .. On the right side of the blog page.
Here is the 411 for the week!

2nd and 5th Perio
Now that we have worked with simplifying fractions,(remember the witch
doctor!) we will now get to adding and subtracting fractions... where is MC Hammer when we need him?? Also, we will really be getting mixed up with Mixed Numbers... how mixed up is that hahahah .. Anyhow... that’s the week!

REMEMBER.. you will be expected to fill out at least one page of notes ~ this will be worth 25 points! Also, you will still have Blog Questions and will be expected to complete those by Friday at midnight.

BLOG QUESTION 2nd and 5th Period:
Leapin lizards...or should I say leapin frogs! Did you know that Batman and Robin are very big into frog jumping? They are training their frogs for this years Calveras County Fair (in California) Frog jumping contest this May 13 - 14. They want to beat last years winner,

Sean Hooley who’s frog jumped 21 feet! Since all Olympic athletes have to train, even Batman & Robins Frogs, our Super Heros decided that they would let their frogs  jump, and then record the distances their frog jumped.

Each frog jumped 3 times and the distances were - Batman’s frog - 15.321 feet, 12.6543 feet, and 19.876 feet. Robin’s frog jumped 10.21 feet, 15.64 feet and 19.867 feet. They need your help! Place all of the jumps in order from least to greatest!
4th Period:
We continue figuring out the percent of a number and then expanding that to how to find the number when a percent is known. Keep taking good notes, pay attention... it is a bit more difficult than what we have been working on!

BLOG QUESTION FOR 4th Period:
Saturday night the Zags played and beat the San Diego Toreeros 68 - 50! That is three wins on this road trip... Our Super Hero Mat Bouldin played 38 minutes - what percent of the game did he play? One of the BIG stars of this game was Elias Harris, who played 34 minutes and scored 20 points. What percentage of the score did Elias make with his 20 baskets? This game Matt made 6 points. What was his percentage of the points?  Also, Demetri Goodson played 30 minutes and scored 12 points. What was his percentage of playing time and his percentage of points for the game?

COOL SITE OF THE WEEK!
Plastic soup - that is what the plastic waste is called (The size of Texas) that is floating in the ocean. Here is an article in the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/10/science/10patch.html
Give it a read... you just might think twice about using plastic water bottles!

GONZAGA UNIVERSITY MENS BASKETBALL!

Zags are on a role.. They have won the last 5 games they have played. After beating San Diego Saturday night they head home for a few games in the Kennel! Even when one player is not able to make as many points as maybe the last game, other players step up... Makes great chemistry and shows true team spirit! GO ZAGS!

As Spidey says each week... Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility." This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-man. You too have great power..
Be responsible, you can do great things!

AND Remember, as always, you are amazing, incredible people with the whole world waiting to be changed by YOU!

Be SUPER This Week!

Mr. Rott
