We are down to the wire... the first half of the Cattle Drive... hmmm does that sound bad? I was thinking that we are nearing the end of the first half of the school year.. Well at least thats how I see it... either way! This is the week before break! 4th period you did great making fudge... really I was impressed... nothing blew up.. No one cut their tounge licking the can of sweet condensed milk! And everyone who tasted it, especially Macy said it was yummy! Monday.. Sugar cookies... that will be an event to remember!

REMEMBER THE BLOOOOOOOG!!!
Interesting fact about Christmas:
Christmas was illegal in England from 1647-1660. This was enforced by the then leader Oliver Cromwell.

“Pets are people too?”, this may be what pet owners are thinking during the Christmas season. It has been estimated that at least 56 percent of Americans sing to their pets. It may just be more fulfilling considering that pets cannot possibly complain.
The people at Reynolds Foil Company make a substantial amount of money selling foil during the Christmas season. It has been confirmed that at least 3,000 tons of foil are used to wrap turkeys annually.

Sending Christmas cards is still the in thing to do around Christmas time. Americans on average send out 28 Christmas cards to friends and family yearly, and guess what, it's certainly not in vain either, most will receive 28 for the same period.

Warning: Christmas shopping may be hazardous to your health. If you are an avid Christmas shopper statistics have concluded that you will be elbowed at least three times while shopping. Ouch!
Christmas is a great time to exercise. You will walk an average of five miles between the parking lot and stores, however, don't let this give you a false sense of security, most people still gain those pesky Christmas pounds despite this.

Just so you know 53% of people plan to “re-gift” meaning they will give someone a gift that had been previously been given to them as a Christmas present... BAH HUMBUG
There are 1.76 Billion Candy Canes made every year.

Not to be a party pooper but... based on a 1999 estimated population count of North America and Europe, on Christmas Eve of that year Santa Claus had to visit 42,466,666 homes in a 12-hour period -- that's 983 homes per second.
Have a wonderful Christmas Break!

OLD WEST FACT OF THE WEEK: Christmas lights to the extreme?
The Faucher Family in Delaware have built extravagant Christmas lights setups for 25 years now. How extravagant? They use 1,000,000 lights. So how much does it cost them to run the lights for a month? $82,320. Gulp.

HouseLogic estimated the total cost by using the average price per kWh in the Faucher Family's region and assumed each of their 1,000,000 bulbs were the average 5 watt C7 bulb. They then figured the lights to run for 4 hours each night and 30 nights in total. The estimated cost came out to be $686 per hour and $82,320 for those bright 30 nights. A lot of money to get in the Christmas spirit!

If the Fauchers use LED lights, their estimate would drop down to $89 hour and $10,680. For their sake, let's hope they do. Check out other extravagant Christmas lights costs at

OLD WEST FACT: Tumble Weeds

This is a phrase used to describe various varieties of bushes that break off when very dry, and roll with the wind.

These thick matted bushes sometimes stick to each other to resemble a giant Tumbleweed, and single Tumbleweeds six or eight feet in diameter, are not uncommon in the Southwest at times. They have been seen in many Western movies, but far from being "quaint" they can be both a nuisance and a fire hazard. Sage brush creates one of the more common kinds of tumbleweed. In the 1935 the Sons of the Pioneers wrote and sang the “Tumbling Tumbleweeds Song... here are the lyrics and the video.

       Tumbling    Tumbleweeds  by Bob Nolan
I'm a roaming cowboy riding all
day long Tumbleweeds around me sing their lonely song
Nights underneath a prairie moon I ride alone and sing a tune See them tumbling down Pledging their love to the ground   Lonely but free I'll be found Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds  Cares of the past are behind Nowhere to go but I'll find  Just where the trail will wind Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds, I know when night has gone that a new world's born at dawn I'll keep rolling along, Deep in my heart is a song, Here on the range I belong Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds
1st and 6th Period:
This week cowpokes we will be working on changing improper fractions to mixed numbers.. Now if you think about it.. Why are there such things as IMPROPER fractions? And aren’t we already mixed up enough with fractions and now we have mixed up numbers? Huh??? Where is the sense in all this math stuff anyhow? Saddle up!

1st Period BLOG QUESTION: GO to the OLD WEST FACT:
#1) There are 11 letters in the  wordTumbleweeds, if 11 is your denominator, draw it out! Then what is the part of the whole - the numerator if we count all the E’s in the word?

#2) Bob Nolan of the Sons of the Pioneers wrote the song Tumbling Tumbleweeds in 1935, how many years ago was that?

#3) How many words are there in the song Tumbling Tumbleweeds if the total number of words is your denominator then what is your numerator IF we count all the words with T’s in them ?
4th Period:
Howdy there ... this week we continue working with decimals... and I have not forgotten our plan to make microwave fudge, maybe this week! We will.. For sure before Christmas Break!
