We had babies!

We just finished up our incubator project.  This was a combined math and science project.  We placed 20 chicken eggs into the incubator and waited.. and waited and still waited for the eggs to hatch.  They started to make sounds even before they hatched.. and then one by one .. poof they were running around inside the incubator.  Out of 20 so far we have had 7 hatch... with more on the way.  Students had the chance to learn about the development of the embryo and the process of a baby chick's development.  We also kept track of the temp and the humidity level and next week we will turn that data into a graph... It was a great project and we all learned and had fun!

What are you doing with your life?

We do not have TV at home... nope.. just Netflix and Hulu... so when people say did you see this or that.. I usually answer nope!  But this weekend I stayed at a hotel and before leaving I was watching the news and saw a story about a teenager who pole vaults blind.  Now pole vaulting has always interested me, its like who is going to use a pole to jump over a pole way up in the air?  Charlotte Brown not only is a pole vaulter but she is also blind!

We all have difficulties in life... but I wonder what are we doing that we can do.. instead of thinking of just the things that we CAN'T do!
Take a look at this link: Charlotte Brown

First day of Spring... 3 20 14

Happy first day of spring!

Hard to beat a morning when you wake up and not only is it sunny and not only is it the first day of spring but it is also the real first day of the Men’s College Basketball Tournament!

I of course have my bracket all done.. actually two brackets and have joined a tournament challenge that my son and his friends have formed…Zags getting to the Sweet 16.. and that truly would be SWEET!  GO GONZAGA BULLDOGS!

Besides the first day of spring and the start of March Madness… we are also just ONE day away from spring break!  Cant wait!!!  It will be so nice to have some time off… I know that is what your thinking since you have worked so hard!

I plan on working at home… resting.. riding my new horse Gus and just chillin!  I hope that you have a great break and get to do lots of fun things!

Remember you are amazing and wonderful people who have great things yet to accomplish in life!

Greg Madux

Happy New Year!  Yes we are back at it and working away!!
Tom Glavine

Last week was a very exciting week in Baseball, especially for Atlanta Braves Baseball!  Both Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first try!  That is exciting and Maddux had 97.2% of the vote (I would have given him 100% of the vote) and Glavine had 91.9% (Math is everywhere!) - that's 555 out of 571 ballots voted for Maddux.   I have seen both of these pitchers pitch and they are INCREDIBLE!  Also, I have a white jersey just like the one that Maddux is wearing in this picture (picture on the right).. and it is way cool!

Why do I share this with you? - besides it being such an exciting news story - I share this with you because when I read about Greg Maddux and what others say I think of my students ... because others have said things like how humble he was/is, how easy going, a hard worker, dedicated, helpful and so on.. what makes this a big deal is that I hope people will say this about each of you - my students  - and that others will think of you in a similar manner!

You get to decide how people view you.  You can work hard and be respectful or be lazy and do the least amount of work that you can.. but wouldn't you rather have people think good things about you vs. bad?  I am sure you would rather be thought of as Greg Maddux than perhaps some other players who were not elected into the hall of fame.

Back to math!  Math group A will be working on simplifying fractions and taking a test next week,  Math group B1 will also be working on simplifying fractions and taking their test either Friday or Tuesday, while Math group B2 is finishing up integers and have their test on this Friday!

The first semester is almost up.. I have told students that they will have until January 24th to turn in all work that they would like to redo or tests that they would like to retake.. don't rush get that work fixed NOW!

Remember, you are amazing and wonderful people with great things ahead of you!!
