SPACE  FACT: HOW MUCH MONEY IS SPENT ON SPACE STUDY?
There are many people who wonder just how much money do we spend or even does the world spend on space or going and being in space actually cost.

The amount is way past any place value chart we have looked at this year and might even seem silly compared to the math that we do in class but no matter what country you live in... we as individuals pay for space exploration whether we want to or not!  Either by taxes, or by our governments budgeting money for space... the money comes from some place and that is often where people become frustrated or angry!
Last year, reporters W.J. Hennigan and Ralph Vartabedian of the the Los Angeles Times wrote an article about the United States funding for space compared to other countries.  This is a just a little of what they reported.

China - plans to launch its first stage of a space station... with planning to land a man on the moon in 2020.

India - is planning on sending a robot to the moon with landing a man on the moon in 2016.

The European Space Agency - is working on a trip to Mars, and is conducting a 520-day simulated voyage to the red planet. Six volunteers are locked in isolation in a windowless mock spaceship, eating canned foods... sounds like fun NOT!

Iran - plans to send a monkey to space, hope it’s not curious George! With then sending a man at a later time.

Israel, Japan, North Korea and South Korea - are all working on launching rockets and other possibilities to follow..
Russia, is now a partner with America in space technology.  The article pointed out that Russia has a $7 billion-a-year space program.

The authors also stated that “by comparison, the Obama administration's proposed NASA funding for fiscal year 2012 was $18.7 billion, but a House appropriations panel cut that to $16.8 billion last week, taking money out of NASA's space exploration and science budgets, among other areas.”
